Abstract
PC Tracker is an application, which is product specific in its implementation. The system can be used as an intranet application catering to the standards of browser specific environment. The application’s major responsibility is to categorically keep track of the PC maintenance that is the primary concern at any organizational level Pc utilization or related to the hardware maintenance department. Each Pc once scheduled for its utilization may need proper maintenance at regular intervals. As the quantity of PC stock increases, it is right mark for the customer support executives or the technical staff to govern and maintain the activity of maintenance of hardware peripherals of the software that are installed. To keep the environment of PC maintenance very cordial. This application software can be used and domestically implemented. The software acts like a ready reminder at the desk of the maintenance engineers and saves great lot of their time in scheduling the customer support service activities. The software is internally handled as an association specific product, with in the organizational activities.
This software is useful to maintain:
-User information like who have taken the PCs.
-PC information like its configuration
-Hardware information like the parts of the computer system
-Software information like the software already installed on the PC
-PC maintenance like contract details
-Staff details like who is monitoring and using the entire system
-Call information like sending the support team to maintain the PC upon receiving a call.
The project has been planned to be having the view of distributed architecture, with centralized storage of the database. The application for the storage of date has been planned with constructs of Oracle 9i and all the user interfaces have been designed using the HTML and JSP application. The Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) has been exploited for the database interactive standards. The Bean components have been implemented for proper reusability and authenticity. The standards of security and date portative mechanism have been given a big choice for proper usage. The application takes care of different modules and their associated reports which re produced as per the applicable strategies and standards that are put forwarded by the administrative staff.
Why the New System?
With the new system the following activities become associated
- The actual users who are within the system at any given instance of time.
- The users and their assigned PCs and the applicational assigned and assigned dates, can be readily known at any time.
- The basic Pc inventory type can be known on demand, from the system, whether it is a laptop or desktop or server etc.
- The applied hardware that is assented for a specific PC can be known, by simple query standard
- The installed and configured software details can be known well in advance to make easy way for maintenance.
- The maintenance agreements can be known at a glance with all the details like the agreement start date and agreement end date and the PC’s that fall under the contract.
- The staff and the assigned support staff information can be known well in advance.
Number of Modules
The system after careful analysis has been identified to present itself with the following modules:
Ø User Interface Module: This module maintains the information about all the users who have been authorized by the Tech PC staff in handling their systems. This module integrates itself with the user assigned database and the support call modules to fairly recognize the standards of PC assignment.
Ø PC Information Module: This module maintains the information related to the existing PC as that is part of the organizational authoritative activity. The module has integration with the Pc inventory type and the applied hardware and software that the pc is handled with.
Ø Hardware information module: This module prescriptinally container the information related to the hardware that can exist upon a PC, all the hardware peripherals are managed here for consistency of inventory. The module has integration with the PC information module.
Ø Software information module: This module manages the actual software that can be associated installed and configured upon a PC. All the different software that exists within the organization as per the standard requirements of the customers are managed as a list here. This module has prescribed integration with the PC information module.
Ø Maintenance agreement information module: This module manages the maintenance agreement contracts information in an integrated and consistent manner. It specifies which PC user has gone with maintenance agreement at what time and the overall conditions the contract ahs been signed. It also states whether the maintenance contract is subjective to the warranty or paid.
Ø Staff information module: This module maintains the information related to all the existing staff under the respective organization. It also manages the information to standardize and state the employees who are actor as support call staff as and when the maintenance of a Pc has to be attended.
Ø Support call information module: This module maintains the specific information related to the support calls that are raised by the Pc users from time to tiem, the module provides information related to which staff has been deputed to which specific PC for the maintenance call that has been raised.
